Intrauterine Devices, or IUDs (sometimes also called Intrauterine Contraception or IUC), are one of the easiest long-lasting birth control options for women who want to prevent pregnancy. IUDs are often chosen for their ease of use, effectiveness, convenience, and reduced hormonal side effects like acne, weight changes, and headaches that can be caused by other forms of birth control. Once fitted IUDs are effective immediately and it is designated as a long-acting, reversible contraception (LARC) option.
IUDs offer effective protection against pregnancy but can also provide management of heavy menstrual bleeding, painful periods, and endometriosis. IUDs can also provide emergency contraception.
If you are considering an IUD for contraception or other reasons, consult with the Reproductive Health team at Signature Health to learn everything you need to make the most informed decision.

Drop-In Pap Test Program
(One Saturday each month 9 am - 1 pm)
A standard pap test is a simple screening tool that can detect the presence of abnormal cervical cells that could lead to cancer. This early detection program is a crucial component of women’s health and women in normal general health and of average risk should receive a pap test every three years.
Pap tests are extremely effective in preventing cervical cancer with the early detection of these abnormal cells. Every woman between the ages of 25 and 69 should be screened, and any woman over the age of 21 who is sexually active (regardless of who their partner is) should also schedule a regular pap test.
A pap test can be performed as part of a regular health check-up or during a pelvic exam with your doctor, but Signature Health also offers a drop-in Pap Test program once a month on Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm. We strive to remove any barriers or obstacles that prevent any woman from accessing this critical piece of women’s comprehensive health care.

ALBERTA CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING PROGRAMAs with most cancers, early detection is key to increasing survival rates for those diagnosed with breast cancer. The Signature Health Breast Cancer Screening program is a breast wellness exam where your physician will check for changes in the breast and any abnormalities in the breast tissue. By prioritizing breast health, Signature Health aims to help women identify and address any changes that could indicate breast cancer or other breast health concerns.
All women in Alberta between the ages of 50 and 74 are encouraged to schedule regular screening mammograms to detect the earliest signs of breast cancer. Women between the ages of 40 and 49 may also be eligible to participate in the program after a discussion of the risks and benefits of screening in this demographic and a referral from their family physician.
